Hello, hello! Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Hope it was fantastic. It was the start of college football. Did you watch any games? Go to any games?
Me, no. I didn’t go to any games, however, the first football game at the University where I work happened to be last Thursday night. The game also happened to be broadcast on TV so there were warnings the week leading up to game day that certain parking lots would be closed and the other lots would need to be vacated by 2:00 or 2:30. So that pretty much means that parking on game day – during the work week – would be even more of a headache than it already is. so what’s a girl to do when she has to work but not quite sure where to park….ride her bike!
Yup, it was the first bike commute from my new parking location. I used to be a full time bike commuter when I lived in the Pacific Northwest but things are a big different biking in the south Midwest. For my maiden voyage from my new parking location, I used my Garmin watch to GPS and time the route. It was a 3.5 mile trek 1 way and it took me 20 minutes. I was going pretty slow on the way there too because I didn’t want to sweat like crazy before sitting in my office all day. I was going to pack my things and shower at the gym on campus BUT after I packed up my backpack it was just too darn big and heavy that I decided to just get ready at home, wear gym clothes during the commute, and then change into my work clothes in my office. Given that we’re having some really nice and cool weather lately that worked out well, however, if temperatures return to normal I will most likely have to shower at the gym on campus because I was quite sweaty even in the cool temperatures.
Since this wasn’t that bad of a commute I am going to try this at least 2 days a week. It gets in a little move movement into my day AND I love bike commuting. It’s such a great way to de-stress and relaxing. Plus I feel that I’m doing something good for the environment by saving the greenhouse gases that are emitted from driving a car. All in all, my first attempt at the bike commute was good. Stay tuned as I might turn into a full time commuter again!
